Spiritual Formation

Our goal is to provide Candler students with holistic resources to ensure that you are mentally, physically, and emotionally fit while navigating your seminary experience. Candler students are able to engage in spiritual formation through participation in worship, experiences in Contextual Education, activities with diverse student groups, and individuals practices, programs and disciplines.

Spiritual Formation Room

Cannon Chapel 106 is a quiet place for prayer, meditation and reflection, complete with a labyrinth and meditation cushions. Students are welcome to come any time.

Small Group Opportunities

During particular seasons of the church year, such as Advent and Lent, students may participate in a weekly small group, meditate at prayer stations and engage in special practices that enhance self-awareness, awareness of the holy, and accountability to others.

THRIVE

THRIVE is an Office of Student Life Initiative focused on providing holistic resources to Candler students to ensure that you are mentally, physically, and emotionally fit while navigating your seminary experience.

Retreats and Quiet Days

During fall and spring breaks, students may attend a free retreat away from campus that invite them to experience sustained silence and spiritual direction. Shorter "quiet days" are offered on campus for students who are unable to participate in longer retreats.

Individual Retreats and Spiritual Direction

Candler students may also choose to take time for personal retreats or to explore and discern with a trained spiritual director. Students who want to learn more are encouraged to talk with Associate Dean of Worship and Spiritual Formation, Rev. Dr. Khalia Williams, who can listen and help connect them to the appropriate resources for guidance.
